Officially a USU Club Sport

Apr 18, 2026

For years the handball program at Utah State University has attempted to become a Club Sport and finally, in the Spring of 2026, that has come to fruition! Club Status will give the team support from the school, especially in terms of recruiting and marketing. It also allows donors to make tax-deductible contributions to the USU HB Club.

We currently have offer a class with University credit on M/W at 3:30 at the handball courts in the HPER building - with the plans to expand to more classes as the sport grows.
Club members meet the same days between 3:30-6.
We're planning an event in the fall to introduce the sport to those that may be interested but want to know more details.  An exciting development allows us to REIMBURSE class fees at the end of each semester so students will have the opportunity to get  University credits without a student fee.

Here is an example of what 4-wall Handball looks like for those new to the sport:

Seth Gentry currently sits as the President of the club with his fellow students and teammates falling in as Secretary, Treasurer and Travel Safety Officer. This club will now be more student-led and coach supported. We're excited for this new phase of USU Handball, and for the opportunity to continue to grow this sport, not just in Logan, but in the state of Utah!

At a recent Utah Singles Tournament in March, many competing players originated from the USU Handball program. There were at least a dozen of us playing, with many other Aggies cheering the players on Jim Karner, current President of the Utah Handball Association (UHA), commented-

"I wanted to state that I believe the USU program, started by Herm Olsen and now shepherded by Stacey, is one of the key reasons Utah continues as a steady and healthy handball scene where we have enough players to host several handball tournaments per year!  Utah still host's separate state singles and doubles tourneys, as well as the immensely popular Aces pro-stop tournament, plus a few smaller events such as the USU tourney and the Liberty Hammer one-wall event.  I can only think of a dozen or so states that still host a state tournament, much less a separate singles and doubles. And sadly, many states no longer have the players to host any handball tournaments at all (e.g., Wyoming, New Mexico, etc.)!  So, please support the USU program, which has developed dozens and dozens of new players over the years to help keep handall alive and well in Utah!"

We're constantly grateful for the support of the UHA, the USHA and our Logan community to help us grow this program and are excited for the things to come!
