The Impact of a Community
Every year, USU's handball club reaches out to fellow handball players and supporters in Utah for financial aid. And every year, this community shows up! We recognize that every little bit helps, and try to emphasize that. Sometimes, people are only able to offer $10-$20, and that amount means just as much to us as the donors that are able to donate larger amounts.
It's been incredible to see the number of donations that come in from past USU students and club members--giving back to the program where most of them first heard about and learned to love handball.
This year we were able to take 7 students to St. Louis to compete in the Collegiate National Handball Tournament. We had several make it to the semi-final rounds! On top of everyone playing their best--4 of these 7 players had only started playing the month before, and they are now committed to returning to nationals next year. I always say, if we can get 'em to nationals, we'll have them hooked. ;) The atmosphere is incredible and getting to compete with other students that are playing at the same level of you is important, and that doesn't always happen at our state-level tournaments when you're a new player. At nationals, you get to rally and have a chance at winning.
We are lucky to have the Utah Handball Association to work with and keep this sport alive and growing in this state. It really is a community effort and we're so grateful for everyone who has ever chipped in with their time and money. It does not go unnoticed.
